A number with context
Every saved reading in Health MindTrack includes a signal quality indicator. It answers a simple question: “How trustworthy is this waveform given motion, lighting, and coverage?”
High vs low quality
- High quality — stable waveform, few motion artefacts, enough samples to compute metrics.
- Low quality — motion, partial finger coverage, cold fingers, or harsh lighting. Metrics may still compute, but uncertainty is higher.
When quality is low, consider the reading exploratory. Retry in better conditions before adding it to a trend you care about.
Withheld results
Sometimes the pipeline returns no metric at all rather than a guess. That is intentional. Products that always show a number train you to ignore uncertainty — we would rather show a gap.
Field performance for camera-based heart rate is typically lower than curated lab sets. We publish our validation approach on the accuracy page and science page.
In the cabinet
On scan detail screens, quality appears alongside the waveform strip. In trends, low-quality points can stand out so they do not silently skew your baseline.
